Who We Are
CASA for Kids, Inc. recruits, screens, trains and monitors volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (i.e. CASA volunteers) who represent the best interest of children under court jurisdiction due to abuse and neglect. CASA volunteers are sworn officers of the court appointed by the judge to advocate for an assigned child or sibling group to make sure they receive needed services and placement in the most appropriate safe and caring permanent home. CASA volunteers are every day citizens who desire to make a difference in the lives of children and make sure the right things happen for them.
What We Do
CASA volunteers go through an interview process and a 9 week training series before being sworn in as an officer of the court by the judge. When appointed to a child or sibling group, CASA volunteers have access to all relevant case information, attend case related meetings with involved family members and professionals, and visit the children on a weekly basis. They also attend regularly scheduled court hearings, submit written Court Reports to the judge documenting their observations and recommendations, and provide court testimony. CASA volunteers remain committed to their assigned child or sibling group until case closure when the family either has successfully worked through the issues that led to the Court's involvement or until the child has been placed in another permanent safe and caring home (generally a 12 - 16 month commitment).
